Release of our WordPress plugin on WordPress.org – not yet

Our plugin submission to WordPress.org has just been rejected by the reviewers because they are concerned about trademark infringement by starting the plugin slug with “activitypub”. The current name is ActivityPub Event Bridge and therefore the slug is activitypub-event-bridge. They suggest to rename it to Event Bridge for ActivityPub and adjust the slug to event-bridge-activitypub. Should we just comply and do as they say, or should we make them reconsider that “ActivityPub” is not a trademark in this sense? @pfefferle I would really appreciate you sharing your thoughts on this.

As part of the development of our WordPress Event Bridge plugin, which improves the integration between the WordPress ActivityPub plugin and several popular event plugins, we have started the first round of evaluation with a number of event organizers. This first phase has mainly involved face-to-face meetings with smaller organizers, while not installing anything on their websites yet. So far, we have gathered insights from 11 small to medium-sized event organizers: their concerns, content management preferences and expectations of our work. Testing WordPress plugins using Forgejo Actions

Preface: Almost all public WordPress plugin development takes place on GitHub. We also collaborate on GitHub. However, we want to use and promote free alternatives for our own project. We currently host our own forgejo instance, but have been thinking about moving our repositories to @Codeberg, where we are more likely to find contributors and bug reports until the forgejo federation is more mature. Automated Testing Workflows: It took us a long time to set up working workflows that run integrations tests with WordPress and the WordPress ActivityPub-plugin within Forgejo Actions using the Forgejo-Runner. Reply Collections have not yet really reached the centre of the #Fediverse. Among other things, moderation aspects play a role here (see FEP-7458 or FEP-5624). But in principle, they offer a wonderful opportunity to maintain consistency in discussion threads in the Fediverse. Smaller instances in particular often lack reactions to content published in the Fediverse. In principle, this is not a bad thing. We promised to keep you updated every two months, though this post comes a bit delayed (see reasons). Thankfully NLnet extended our time period.
